‘Dinner For One’, a very English 18 minute comedy sketch made in 1963 is consistently the most watched television progromme in Germany. It’s shown on nearly every channel on New Year’s eve, garnering viewing figures that TV executives would sell their soul for – it’s thought that 17 million tune in every year, in fact it holds the record for the most repeated TV programme in history. Despite being in English, set in England and shot with an English cast it wasn’t until 2018 that it was actually broadcast on UK television. Finely nuanced, consistently entertaining, and massively underappreciated on these shores… ring any bells? Yes, that’s right we have more fantastic Riesling for you…

Compared to our offerings from Franken and Mosel these wines from the Nahe have a deeper and more wholesome feel. A combination of marl and red sandstone dominates and owner/winemaker Harald picks relatively late to ensure rich, textural and ripe styles. Yields across the 7ha estate are kept very low, everything is handpicked and the majority of the wines are racked only once to make sure they’re bottled with vigour and have a clean, slatey streak.

After somewhat of a Riesling overdose recently, we also fell for a couple of peculiarities, namely Sauvignon Blanc and Grauburgunder with the varieties lending themselves very nicely to Harald’s more generous approach.
